AP McCoy and Don't Push It.

AP McCoy and Don't Push It. Bidding for National glory once again.

The Grand National. The biggest day on the horse racing calendar.

A day when everyone from seasoned punters to your Granny has a wee flutter.

Will Don’t Push It and AP McCoy be celebrating once again. Or will The Midnight Club or BallaBriggs provide us with a new winner?

If you’re having a bet yourself then we wish you luck.

And once the race is run, how about recreating a little bit of the excitement with your own race night to raise money for Simakakata Community School?

How do you organise a race night?

There are lots of companies out there who can supply you with absolutely everything you need (and offer you a lot you don’t!) to run a successul race night. We don’t partner with any of them so your best bet is to google “Charity race night” and go with the one that suits your event.

Whoever you choose the basics will be as follows:

  • They send you a pack with 6/8 races on a DVD, betting tickets and everything else you need.
  • You sell tickets to your event.
  • Ask people to sponsor the races in advance.
  • On the night you use a tote betting system. Everyone places their bets and half the money goes to the winning tickets and half to LearnAsOne (everything is explained in your pack).
  • Run the race.
  • Repeat the betting and the next race. And so on.

You can also think up other ways to raise money on the night. You could lay on some food and drink and donate the profits. An auction during the interval can work a treat too.

There are usually about 8 races which last for 5 minutes each. Perfect for your 40 minute fundraise!
