Are you part of an online community? Do they have a forum. If so, could you start a thread about the 40 minute fundraise? Here’s some basic copy, which you can adapt as you wish.
Title: A 40 minutes challenge.
Hey all!
Something different from me today. I’d like to challenge you to give up 40 minutes of your time to fund a school in Zambia.
Before you switch off, let me tell you a story.
Sonet is a young girl who lives in Simakakata, rural Zambia. Her school is a borrowed farmhouse. There are no doors, it’s incredible dark and the roof leaks. Yer, yer. Heard it all before you say. But this is different.
Lead by Vincent, a qualified builder, the community have made over 60,000 bricks by hand. They’ve built three classrooms and are currently building a fourth. They’ve done this themselves. No outside help, apart from one thing.
Money. The community can’t afford raw materials such as cement, doors and roofing sheets. The raw materials for one building cost £6,500. The community still need two classrooms and six teachers’ houses.
One of Sonet’s lessons last for 40 minutes. I’m going to [insert your campaign here] for 40 minutes to raise funds.
Will you join me and set up a 40 minute fundraise campaign?
You could bake cakes and sell them for 40 minutes, host a 40 minutes quiz or donate hugs for 40 minutes. You can also challenge a friend. Who do we know who hates heights? Lets challenge them to do a sky dive. That’ll scare them for a good 40 minutes.
[Change the ideas to fit your community]
The 40 minute fundraise campaign is being run by a charity called LearnAsOne. Later in the year they will return to Sonet’s school to show everyone the money raised in action.
You can create a campaign at www.40minutefundraise.com.
Thanks!
